What Are the Statewide Health Equity Calls?
The Statewide Health Equity Calls are virtual monthly community learning and organizing calls for people across California who care about health equity and dignity.
Together, through an Ethnic Studies and Community-Responsive lens, we learn how health care money works, why it feels so hard to get care, and how budget cuts and privatization hurt our communities. We also learn how communities can fight back and win better care, better funding, and better policies.
These calls are rooted in community history, lived experience, and the long tradition of resistance and care in our communities.
What You Will Learn
By the end of the year, participants will:
- Trace the flow of money and power in healthcare at the state, federal, and local levels. Understand how public funds are redirected into corporate profit and who benefits.
- Analyze the California budget and legislative process through an HR 1 and equity lens, connecting immediate policy fights to long-term goals for a universal healthcare system.
- Build and organize advocacy methods that fight for fair health care funding, challenge false information, and connect issues like immigration and language access to the larger fight for health and racial equity.
