Title: HEALTH EDUCATOR
Job Duties:
THE HEALTH EDUCATOR WILL LEAD AND DEVELOP PROGRAMS ON BEHALF OF NONPROFIT HEALTH POLICY ORGANIZATION, CALIFORNIA PAN-ETHNIC HEALTH NETWORK TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE AND ADVANCE HEALTH EQUITY FOR COMMUNITIES OF COLOR IN CALIFORNIA.
SPECIFICALLY, THE HEALTH EDUCATOR WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING JOB DUTIES: ENGAGE AND MOBILIZE COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO ENSURE ACCESS TO CULTURALLY AND LINGUISTICALLY COMPETENT CARE; EMPLOY RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT SKILLS TO WORK WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS IN DEVELOPMENT OF
POLICY AND COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES AND ACTIVITIES TO FURTHER ADVOCACY WITH LOCAL AND STATE POLICY MAKERS AND TO SUPPORT COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT; COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY ABOUT COMPLEX ISSUES WITH EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL AUDIENCES IN A CLEAR AND CREDIBLE MANNER; COORDINATE AND MANAGE LOGISTICS OF EVENTS AND ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES, INCLUDING PRESS CONFERENCES, ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSIONS, AND OTHER COALITION MEETINGS TO CREATE MULTICULTURAL DIALOGUE ON HEALTH EQUITY; ORGANIZE BIENNIAL CONFERENCE; CREATE AND MAINTAIN PROCESSES FOR EFFICIENT OUTREACH, ADVOCACY, AND MOBILIZATION TO IMPLEMENT AND SUPPORT POLICY AGENDA; CONDUCT RESEARCH AND DEVELOP MATERIALS, INCLUDING LETTERS, PRESENTATIONS, AND FACT SHEETS ON COUNTY, STATE AND FEDERAL PROPOSALS TO DEVELOP COMMUNITY-DRIVEN STRATEGIES THAT SUPPORT POLICY
PRIORITIES. THIS INCLUDES CRITICAL EVALUATION OF DIVERSE AND COMPLEX SOURCES OF INFORMATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF STRATEGIES BASED ON FINDINGS.
S/HE WILL ALSO TRACK AND MANAGE PROJECT BUDGETS; DEVELOP WORK PLANS, TEAM ACTIVITIES, TIMELINES AND ACTIONS; WORK EFFECTIVELY WITH COLLEAGUES TO COORDINATE STRATEGIES AND ACTIVITIES ACROSS TEAMS; WORK WITH STAFF TO STRENGTHEN INTERNAL OPERATIONS AND DOCUMENTATION METHODS THAT ENSURE NETWORK OPERATIONS AND POLICY DEVELOPMENT TO FUNCTION SMOOTHLY; MANAGE MULTIPLE REQUESTS AND MAKE CHANGES BASED ON UNDERSTANDING PRIORITIES; AND, SEEK OUT AND IMPLEMENT OPPORTUNITIES TO IMPROVE PROCESSES AND WORK RESULTS.
THE HEALTH EDUCATOR WILL DEMONSTRATE RESPECT AND SENSITIVITY FOR ALL COMMUNITIES AND CULTURES AMONG STAFF AND PARTNERS, RESPOND
POSITIVELY AND PRODUCTIVELY TO CHALLENGES AND ACCEPT NEW GOALS, PRIORITIES OR PROCEDURES; AND, ACT DECISIVELY, ENGAGING IN TIMELY AND QUALITY
DECISION MAKING. S/HE WILL CREATE ATMOSPHERE OF RESPECT, HELPFULNESS, AND COOPERATION AND PROVIDE EFFECTIVE COACHING AND DEVELOPMENT TO
STAFF TO IMPROVE QUALITY.
Requirements:
MASTERS DEGREE IN PUBLIC HEALTH OR A RELATED FIELD PLUS TWO YEARS OF PUBLIC HEALTH WORK EXPERIENCE. EXPERIENCE MUST INCLUDE: (1) WORKING WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS AND COALITIONS THROUGH ORGANIZING OR MOBILIZATION EFFORTS; (2) WORKING WITH COMMUNITIES OF COLOR; (3) POLICY ANALYSIS AND ADVOCACY RELATED TO MULTICULTURAL HEALTH CARE AND PUBLIC HEALTH; (4) POLICY ANALYSIS AND ADVOCACY RELATED TO SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH AND HEALTH EQUITY.
